Amazon sieht sich weiter als „Zerstörer“ wider Willen

In den USA wird Amazon-Chef Jeff Bezos dieser Tag als "der ultimative Zerstörer" ("the ultimate disrupter") gefeiert. Der Amazon-Gründer sieht sich selber lieber als Erfinder. Zerstörung sei nicht sein Ziel, sondern maximal eine Folge seines Tuns, erläuterte er jüngst im Interview mit Charlie Rose:

"Our goal is not to disrupt, but it's a consequence of invention.

When you invent something like Kindle, it is going to change the publishing industry, it's gonna change the bookselling industry.

So it does have a disruptive effect on the incumbants, but that's not the goal."

In den letzten Wochen sind neben den Interviews mit Jeff Bezos noch große Interviews mit Apple-Chef Tim Cook und mit Google-Chef Larry Page erschienen, die noch einmal sehr gut verdeutlichen, dass sich hier Unternehmer auf einer Mission befinden – gemäß Jeff Bezos' "missionaries over mercenaries" Devise, die von einem Drang zur (Welt-)Veränderung getrieben sind, wie man ihn hierzulande – selbst in der Online-Branche! – kaum findet.

Spannend ist deshalb immer die obligatorische Frage nach dem Wettbewerb – und die mehr oder minder genervte Reaktion, weil Unternehmen wie Amazon, Apple, Facebook oder Google in ihrem Selbstverständnis keinen Wettbewerb im üblichen Sinn kennen. Oder wie es Larry Page formuliert:

"I actually view that as a shame when you think about it that way. All
the big technology companies are big because they did something great.

Obviously we think about competition to some extent. But I feel my job
is mostly getting people not to think about our competition.

In
general I think there's a tendency for people to think about the things
that exist. Our job is to think of the thing you haven't thought of yet
that you really need.

And by definition, if our competitors knew that
thing, they wouldn't tell it to us or anybody else."
