Der Shoppingclub Privalia hat heute in Spanien eine satte Kapitalspritze von 70 Mio. Euro bekanntgegeben und will mit dem Geld Übernahmen in Europa vorbereiten:

"Privalia,
the leading private online sales club providing value for fashion brands and
consumers, is pleased to announce today a EUR70 million ($95 million)
financing.

The new funding will allow Privalia to leverage its international
leadership position through potential M&A activity in Europe and to
consolidate its market leading position in Latin America.

This capital raise is the largest funding round the Company has
undertaken to date. Prior to this capital raise, Privalia had received a
total of EUR15 million through four funding rounds since its formation in
2006. 

Privalia was founded in Barcelona, Spain in 2006 by
Lucas Carne and Jose-Manuel Villanueva and is the market leader in each
country in which it currently operates: Spain, Brazil, Italy and Mexico.
Privalia has over 5 million members worldwide."

Privalia bewegt sich umsatzmäßig in den Regionen von Brands4Friends, ShowroomPrive und BuyVIP und möchte seine Umsätze 2010 auf 140 Mio. Euro steigern.

Unter den Kapitalgebern befinden sich auch Investoren der US-amerikanischen Gilt Groupe, so dass Privalia zu einer Art europäischen Vorhut für Gilt werden könnte.

Eines der ersten Übernahmeziele dürfte nun Brands4Friends sein (s. auch Was bleiben Brands4Friends jetzt noch für Exit-Optionen?):

"Lucas Carné, joint chief executive and co-founder of Privalia, said he
was eyeing acquisitions in Europe’s fragmented market, which he sees as
ripe for consolidation.

“Our target would be something at the centre of a
big market. Scale is important as it gives you good negotiating power.”

Damit wird auch klar, weshalb BuyVIP im Wettbewerb mit Privalia den kürzeren gezogen hat – und sich für vergleichsweise wenig Geld – man möchte fast von Notverkauf sprechen – in die Arme von Amazon begeben hat.
