Während Matches Fashion weiter bangen muss, geht im Luxussegment Farfetch für 500 Mio. Dollar an Coupang in Südkorea:
„Coupang, a leading global retailer, today announced plans to acquire the business and assets of Farfetch Holdings plc, a top online luxury company.
Today’s agreement gives Farfetch access to $500 million of capital to continue providing exclusive brands and boutiques with bespoke, cutting-edge technology and giving leading designers access to consumers around the globe.“
Die Rettung in letzter Minute bedeutet zugleich das Börsen-Aus für Farfetch:
„The Board is disappointed that the process has not resulted in a solution that ensures that Farfetch Limited, the listed entity, remains a going concern.
However, the Board is pleased to see that FF PLC has successfully secured a solution that ensures the continued operations of its business and that it will continue to serve the network of brands, boutiques and consumers depending on the FARFETCH Marketplace every day.“
Außerdem ist dadurch die Übernahme von Yoox Net-a-Porter geplatzt:
„As a result of the contemplated transaction announced by FARFETCH on 18 December 2023, the arrangements with FARFETCH underpinning the transactions announced in August 2022 cannot complete.“
Es ist wohl kein Zufall, dass die Rettung für Farfetch aus Asien kommt, wo man die Perspektiven für den Online-Handel komplett anders einschätzt als im Westen.
Coupang hatte 2022, nur 2 Jahre nach der $10 Mrd. Marke, auch die $20 Mrd. Marke genommen und ist damit ähnlich rasant unterwegs wie Shein & Co.:
